About

Library Camp Nebraska II is the second in a series of unconferences throughout the state of Nebraska. So, just what is an unconference?

An unconference is the best part of a conference (conversing with your colleagues) stripped out and crammed into a fun and informative day-long event. Unconferences have no pre-selected presenters, just group discussions on the topics that you want to talk about with your colleagues. Library Camp Nebraska will be using the BarCamp model for our unconference. Participation will be limited to just the first 100 registrants and is open to anyone who is interested in dialogue and conversation about customer-friendly libraries, library 2.0 and how we can all improve our services and organizations to meet the needs of our communities. (There will be tech topics covered, but if you aren't a techie, come talk about something else.)

Registrants are encouraged to post some information about themselves and submit topic ideas on this wiki. Once we all gather on the morning of November 19th, we'll decide as a group what is to be discussed. There will be at least six rooms available so many, many different discussions can occurr. If you join one and you find you're not as interested as you thought, just get up and head for another room.

WiFi access will be made available and attendees are encouraged to bring their laptops. Large pads of paper and markers will be available in the rooms.

Morning and afternoon snacks and beverages will be provided. You will be responsible for covering your lunch expenses. (There will be discussions scheduled for the lunch period so don't plan on going off-campus for lunch.)

Final Schedule

9 - 9:30 a.m.: Registration and getting to know your Library Camp colleagues - UNL, Nebraska Union, Centennial Ballroom

9:30 - 10 a.m.: Opening session: What to expect today, decide on discussion topics, organize into break-out groups

10 - 11 a.m.: Break out session 1

Noon - 1:30 p.m.: Break out session 3 and Lunch (on your own in the Union)

2:45 - 4 p.m.: Closing session: Re-group, discuss break out session results, determine next steps

What do I need to do next?

  • Register for Library Camp Nebraska II
  • Make sure you have a PBWorks account so you can edit this wiki.
  • Tell us about yourself
  • Submit a topic for discussion
  • Location map & directions
  • Laptops & WiFi
  • Got a question?

What's the tag for this event?

Please tag everything with libcampnebraska09. Yes, it's a little long but it works. (Abbreviating 'Nebraska' and 'NE' will make those not in the know think we're in the North East or something.)

What about CE credit?

Nebraska librarians who attend all day will earn 3 credit-hours of CE. The usual form will be your responsibility to fill out and submit.

Can I follow along if I'm not attending?

Yep, just head on over to the Library Camp Nebraska FriendFeed room.

Who's in charge of this circus?

If you've got suggestions or praise, you can let Michael Sauers or Christa Burns know. If you've got a complaint, please find someone else to talk to about it ;-)
